Autumn
The season of Pumpkin Spiced Lattes
Autumn. My favorite time of the year for a variety of reasons. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas. It’s all about the toys and Santa and Ho, Ho, Ho. But Autumn is the season of golden leaves, football and Pumpkin spiced Lattes. Well two out of three ain’t bad. One of our very dear friends Loves and Lives on Pumpkin Spiced Lattes. I most definitely do not. Personally I think the Pumpkin Spiced anything has gone too far. Now we have cereals, coffee, tea, muffins, bread, and soap. Wait. What? Soap. Frickin’ Men’s soap! I mean that’s just too much. I’d be afraid to wear it for fear that some Pumpkin Spiced Latte starved Doberman would mistake me for the Pork Chop of the month club and take a hunk out of my backside. Stop the MADNESS! Lattes we can deal with. Soap? Not so much.
Leaf peeping is an important part of living in Colorado. Millions (it seems that way) crowd the Mountain roads to get a look at leaves as they fall to the ground. I love leaves changing colors as much as the next guy but when you think about, it the entire state goes completely bonkers to see Freddy the Falling Leaf plummet to his death. Kind of takes the romance right out of it, doesn’t it? Most of this years crop of falling leaves have already descended due to…well…this…
All in all this time of the year is the season for my very favorite botanical fruit/ culinary vegetable: the lowly Green Chile. I prefer mine from Hatch New Mexico. I crave it. I need it like the air I breathe. To me their is nothing better than the smell of green chiles being roasted on an open fire. NOW that is a Soap I would buy!
Which brings me to this next cartoon. I used to draw for the Guadalupe County Communicator in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. They began to have a bit of a feral hog problem in town and it seemed like perfectly good cartoon material. This one will always be one of my favorites. Pardon me now while I go out in search of a good tamale smothered in green chile. And Green Chile Soap! Til next time, May the Pumpkin Spiced Latte’s be with you.
